Intel CEO: "Semiconductor Industry to Experience Boom for the Next 10 Years"
"Announcement of Large-Scale Factory Expansion Plan Within the Year"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Pat Gelsinger, CEO of the American semiconductor company Intel, forecasted that the semiconductor industry will experience a boom over the next decade.
According to the US economic media CNBC on the 16th (local time), CEO Gelsinger said at a conference hosted by CNBC, "We expect a prosperous period for the next 10 years," adding, "As the world becomes increasingly digital, all digital devices require semiconductors."
CNBC analyzed, "CEO Gelsinger's remarks imply that Intel's investment in semiconductor facilities will create production capacity that will be utilized even after the current shortage ends."
In fact, CEO Gelsinger said on the same day that he would announce plans to add large-scale fabs (factories) in the US or Europe within this year.
Intel also revealed in March that it plans to invest $20 billion (approximately 22.6 trillion KRW) to build two new semiconductor factories in Arizona and enter the semiconductor foundry business.
CEO Gelsinger attended the conference panel alongside Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, the world's largest communication chip manufacturer.
At the event, CEO Amon mentioned the possibility of cooperation between the two companies, stating that Intel's entry into the foundry business could be advantageous for Qualcomm, which uses external foundries.
