Educational promotional materials are being widely distributed to industrial sites to reduce the risk of serious accidents caused by machinery, including fatal accidents.
The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency’s Industrial Safety and Health Certification Institute (Director Kim Bong-ho) announced on the 17th that it will produce and distribute 22 types of educational materials as part of a project to prevent machinery-related accidents.
Under the Industrial Safety and Health Act, the agency created a total of 22 materials, including 9 OPLs and 13 Key Messages, targeting 9 types of hazardous and dangerous machinery that require periodic safety inspections and have a high risk of serious accidents such as falls and entrapment.
The 9 types of hazardous and dangerous machinery are cranes, lifts, conveyors, injection molding machines, mobile cranes, aerial work platforms, presses, shears, and industrial robots.
The 9 OPLs are educational materials that summarize major serious accident cases, occurrence status, risk factors, and safety measures for each dangerous machine on a single page.
Additionally, the 13 Key Messages are signs emphasizing safety measures for the core risk factors of machinery, designed in a form that can be easily attached to machines at the site.
A total of 49,000 educational materials were produced (36,000 OPLs and 13,000 Key Messages). The agency and private safety inspection organizations plan to directly educate users of dangerous machinery (operators, maintenance workers) and provide these materials during safety inspections.
The materials can also be downloaded and used from the agency’s website resource center.
