[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) held the 'Tancheon Retention Basin Sports Facility Completion Ceremony' on the 16th at the Tancheon Retention Basin Soccer Field.
The Tancheon Retention Basin is a facility that collects and discharges rainwater during heavy summer rains, and except for the summer season, it had been left as an empty lot. Although there were some sports facilities, they were limited to basic sand grounds and did not fulfill the functions of proper sports facilities.
Accordingly, Songpa-gu secured national and city funding since last year and began constructing ▲soccer field ▲gateball court ▲jokgu court ▲badminton court ▲multipurpose field.
These facilities are equipped with artificial turf, fences, and convenience facilities, and through this completion, the once barren Tancheon Retention Basin has been reborn as a modern comprehensive sports facility.
In particular, local athletes have high expectations for the new sports facilities at the Tancheon Retention Basin. Hwang Hyun, president of the Songpa-gu Sports Association, said, “Thanks to the efforts of Songpa-gu Office, sports spaces in the urban area have increased,” adding, “I am very pleased to think that recreational athletes will be able to exercise freely in the future.”

Mayor Park Seong-su also emphasized, “Songpa-gu has continuously made efforts to expand sports facilities utilizing idle land in the area with the belief that ‘sports activities lead to a healthy and happy life,’” and added, “We will continue to devote more effort to cultural and sports policies to create conditions where all residents can enjoy sports activities nearby and maintain their health.”
