[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 16th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will hold a donation ceremony and the inauguration ceremony of the Honorary Chairman of Seoul Community Chest at Seoul City Hall, together with Aekyung Industrial and Seoul Community Chest, to improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups and promote a culture of sharing.

Aekyung Industrial will donate various household products such as detergents, shampoos, soaps, and cosmetics to improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups. Aekyung Industrial, which has been continuously engaged in social contribution activities such as briquette delivery, meals for the elderly, and kimchi sharing, donated approximately 21.1 billion KRW worth of its products to vulnerable groups in Seoul over nine years from 2012 to 2020. This year, following last year, Aekyung Industrial will donate household goods worth 5.2 billion KRW, which will be distributed to small welfare facilities and low-income vulnerable households in need through Seoul Community Chest and the nonprofit organization People Sharing Hope.
Furthermore, Mayor Oh, who was inaugurated as the 1st Honorary Chairman of Seoul Community Chest in 2007, will become the 3rd Honorary Chairman after 14 years. Mayor Oh will take the lead in spreading the culture of sharing, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, in close cooperation with Seoul Community Chest. CEO Lim Jae-young said, “We continued to donate this year with the hope of helping neighbors who are especially struggling due to COVID-19. We hope that the donated items, which embody the meanings of ‘love’ and ‘respect’ as represented by the name Aekyung, will be well delivered to those in need.” Chairman Yoon Young-seok stated, “With the generous sharing of social contribution companies like Aekyung Industrial and the warm support of the Mayor of Seoul, who has been inaugurated as the Honorary Chairman of Seoul Community Chest, we will do our best to spread the culture of sharing in Seoul.”
