L&K Bio Obtains Patent for Anterior Cervical Plate in the United States
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] L&K Biomed, a developer of spinal implants, announced on the 15th that it has registered a patent in the United States for an anterior cervical plate necessary for anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF).
An anterior cervical plate is required during anterior fixation surgery on the cervical spine in orthopedics and neurosurgery. Cervical fusion surgery involves making an incision on the front of the neck, removing the disc, inserting an anterior cervical cage between the bones, and fixing an anterior cervical plate on top to fuse adjacent cervical vertebrae. The cervical plate is considered the core technology in cervical surgery. It must be lightweight and thin, and the key point is to make it sturdy enough to prevent defects such as dislocation or disassembly.
The cervical plate developed by L&K Biomed features a screw locking mechanism that is stronger than competing products, fundamentally preventing dislocation and disassembly.
An L&K Biomed official introduced, "The patented technology was developed to be anatomically suitable to facilitate the installation of bone fixation screws that fix the anterior cervical plate closely to the cervical vertebral body."
He added, "It can prevent patients from feeling foreign body sensation after surgery," and said, "The locking part that supports the bone fixation screws maintains posture, so there is little risk of the bone fixation screws dislocating even after surgery."
