Chonnam National University, Jeonnam Province, and Yeosu City Join Hands to Take First Step in Yeosu Industrial Complex Renovation Project
Yeosu Industrial Complex Smart Manufacturing Advanced Workforce Training Begins, 33 Companies Including GS Caltex and LG Chem Participate
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Kyung-taek] Chonnam National University has officially launched the "Smart Manufacturing Advanced Workforce Training Project," the first initiative of the Yeosu Industrial Complex Renovation Project in Jeollanam-do.
On June 8, Chonnam National University, together with Jeollanam-do, Yeosu City, Jeonnam Yeosu Industry-Academia Convergence Institute, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, Han Young University, and Korea Conformity Laboratories, signed the "Smart Manufacturing Advanced Workforce Training Project Agreement" at the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Jeonnam Regional Headquarters and began full-scale workforce training.
The project involves an investment of 10 billion KRW, with participation from 33 companies including large corporations such as GS Caltex and LG Chem within the Yeosu Industrial Complex, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises.
According to the agreement, local governments will provide administrative and financial support, while the university will be responsible for educating current students and employees of participating companies. In particular, customized education tailored to corporate demands is designed to facilitate employment connections. It is expected that approximately 1,500 students and employees will receive training, with around 330 securing jobs at large corporations as well as small and medium-sized enterprises.

Previously, the government declared the Industrial Complex Renovation Project, committing 1.011 trillion KRW by 2024 to transform aging industrial complexes into low-carbon intelligent materials and component complexes, aiming to secure competitiveness and promote sustainable growth, and has now entered the full-scale implementation phase.
