How to Learn and Where to Get EM Fermentation Solution?
Increasing Interest in Health and Nature... Annual Growth in Eco-Friendly EM (Effective Microorganisms) Fermentation Solution Supply... Wide Range of EM Uses Including Toilet and Food Odor Removal, Kitchen Detergents, and Plant Nutrients
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is actively promoting EM (Effective Micro-organisms) education and distribution to encourage eco-friendly living practices.
EM stands for Effective Micro-organisms, referring to a combination and cultivation of about 80 beneficial microorganisms such as lactic acid bacteria, yeast, photosynthetic bacteria, and Bacillus subtilis, selected from the many microorganisms naturally present in the environment.
It has antioxidant effects and can be used for odor removal from food waste and pets, as a natural insecticide, water quality improvement, and is versatile for cleaning living rooms and rooms, laundry, and home gardening.
Above all, since EM uses microorganisms instead of chemical substances, it provides safety from damage caused by exposure to harmful chemicals. Recently, with the emphasis on ecosystem preservation due to the climate change crisis, it has gained even more attention.
The district offers free classes to provide residents with useful information about EM. Classes are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m., and applications can be made through the integrated registration window on the Nowon-gu website.
The curriculum includes the concept of EM and making natural household products (such as soap) using EM. To comply with COVID-19 social distancing, the class size is limited to 12 people per session, and classes are held at the Nowon Eco Center (Sanggye 6,7-dong).
Meanwhile, the district has installed four 2-ton EM fermenters at the Nowon Eco Center and other locations, providing free EM through 25 supply stations to residents.
Residents who need EM fermentation liquid can bring an empty container of 1.5 liters or more and fill it for free at the district office and 19 community service centers.
The district explained that the annual supply of EM has shown a significant increase, from 38,715 liters in 2018 to 187,660 liters in 2020, indicating strong interest from residents.
