Two Elementary Students Drowned in Gwangju... "One Dead, One in Critical Condition"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] At around 3:34 PM on the 12th, a report was received by 119 that two 3rd-grade elementary school students had fallen into the water at a stepping stone in Pungyeongjeongcheon, Suwan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju.
119 rescuers arrived and pulled the children out of the water. They were taken to a nearby hospital, but one child died, and the other, in critical condition, was transferred to a university hospital.
The elementary school students involved in the accident were reportedly playing with water guns when they fell into the water.
A 2nd-grade elementary school student who was playing with them made the emergency call to the 119 control center.
The three students are not siblings. The student who made the report did not fall into the water.
The rescue team estimated the water depth at the accident site to be between 1.5 and 2 meters.
