[Photo] Jungnang-gu Sinnae 2-dong Haengbok Nanuri Council Members Prepare Young Radish Kimchi for Donation to Elderly Living Alone
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The Sinnae 2-dong Community Service Center in Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) announced on the 11th that 16 people, including elderly living alone and members of the Sinnae 2-dong Happiness Sharing Council (Chairman Yang Seung-su), gathered to make young radish kimchi together and delivered it to neighbors in need.
The kimchi made that day was especially meaningful as it was made from young radishes grown directly by the elderly living alone.
In April, the district allocated plots in the Jungnang Happiness Farm garden as part of a healing agriculture program to prevent solitary deaths among elderly living alone. The seniors planted young radish seeds and carefully watered and tended them every week.
The finished kimchi was delivered to 30 vulnerable households in the community, including elderly living alone and disabled people who have difficulty preparing side dishes.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Since the young radish kimchi was made with care by neighbors for neighbors, it will probably taste even better,” and added, “We will continue to spread the village community culture and create a Jungnang-gu where no neighbor is left isolated.”
