The ‘Walking Day Campaign’ will be held on the 11th in Busan.
Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) announced that it will promote a campaign to spread walking culture together with several districts and counties while complying with COVID-19 quarantine guidelines.
‘June 11, Walking Day’ is this year’s first Walking Day campaign hosted by Busan City. Eight districts and counties, including Jung-gu, will also jointly promote the Walking Day campaign.
On June 23, a citizen walking Walking Day event praying for the hosting of the 2030 Busan World Expo will also be held at the Uam-dong Urban Forest Park in Nam-gu.
‘Walking Day’ was set on the 11th of every month to practice walking in daily life, with the date ‘11’ symbolizing two legs.
Last year, from May to November, a walking activity campaign was operated once a month together with districts and counties. A citizen participation SNS event called ‘10,000 steps is a piece of cake’ was also held to deliver messages of daily recovery through walking and to create a wave of spreading walking culture.
To mark this Walking Day, Busan City will conduct a promotional campaign targeting citizens from 8:30 a.m. on the 11th at the city hall lobby and the subway City Hall Station waiting room. The eight districts and counties have planned to promote distinctive Walking Day campaigns with their own plans.
▲ Jung-gu will hold a Walking Day linked with environmental cleanup together with volunteer groups ▲ Dongnae-gu will hold a Walking Day walking with pets at Oncheoncheon Citizen Park ▲ Yeongdo-gu will operate a month-long Walking Day linked with neighborhood walking clubs ▲ Buk-gu will hold a Galmaetgil walking Walking Day with 60 residents from the Life Empathy Policy Participation Group and neighborhood organizations ▲ Gangseo-gu, Sasang-gu, and Gijang-gun also plan to carry out campaigns suited to their respective conditions.
In Nam-gu, Busan City and the 2030 Busan World Expo Pan-Citizen Hosting Committee (Executive Chairman Oh Seong-geun) will hold a ‘2030 Busan World Expo Hosting Prayer’ Walking Day walking event with about 50 citizens at Uam-dong Urban Forest Park from 3 p.m. on June 23.
The 2030 Busan World Expo Pan-Citizen Hosting Committee (Executive Chairman Oh Seong-geun) said, “If we succeed in hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo, it will create 500,000 jobs and have an economic effect of 61 trillion won, leading to the second development of the Republic of Korea,” expressing hope for citizens’ interest and participation.
Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun emphasized that citizens’ daily walking activities are part of the process of creating a ‘15-minute living zone city’ together.
Mayor Park said, “I hope that on the 11th of every month, people practice walking in daily life, balance life and leisure, and empathize with the values aimed at by the 15-minute living zone city.”
