Gyeongnam Province Implements Strengthened Quarantine Measures to Prevent African Swine Fever
African Swine Fever Virus Spreading Southward in Wild Boars
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 10th that it will implement strengthened quarantine measures to prevent the inflow of African Swine Fever virus into the province following its detection in wild boars in Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do.
African Swine Fever has occurred in 1,426 cases of wild boars so far, including an outbreak at a pig farm in Yeongwol, Gangwon, on the 4th of last month.
Since September 17, 2019, the province has been enforcing phased restrictions on the movement of pigs, focusing on affected areas, to block the inflow of African Swine Fever into the province.
The province operates 20 key disinfection facilities to thoroughly disinfect livestock vehicles.
To prevent the virus from being introduced into pig farms by wild boars, entry into mountains in counties where African Swine Fever has occurred is prohibited, and the feeding of fresh-cut forage to pigs is banned.
Since last year, a support project for installing wildlife intrusion prevention fences at pig farms has been underway, providing fence installation support to 138 farms so far.
Additionally, to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever through vectors such as rats, flies, and mosquitoes, joint pest control teams and disinfection vehicles conduct deworming and insect control activities once a week.
