'Climbing 20 Famous Mountains in Gangwon-do'... Gangwon Tourism Foundation Hosts 'Climbing Certification Challenge'
Peace Region's Five Major Mountains On-Site Trekking Event Also Held
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-chul] An opportunity has been provided to climb the 20 famous mountains of Gangwon-do, recognized by domestic famous global outdoor companies and hiking enthusiasts in the community.
The Gangwon-do Tourism Foundation announced on the 10th that it will hold the "Gangwon 20 Famous Mountains Certification Challenge" project together with BYN Black Yak Co., Ltd.
The 20 famous mountains of Gangwon-do are recognized not only by the 250,000 members of the Black Yak Alpine Club (BAC) but also by the Korea Forest Service and the Korea National Park Service. They are places that people of all ages want to challenge and are well known as backpacking sanctuaries for domestic and international trekkers.
This challenge project, which runs for six months from this month until November, requires participants to climb the 20 famous mountains and certify their achievement through the Black Yak BAC app. Additionally, those who certify climbing 5, 10, or 20 peaks during the project period will receive a specially made certification patch from the Tourism Foundation.
In particular, an event will be held where BAC points are doubled for certifying climbs of hidden famous mountains in the peace region, such as Geumhak Mountain in Cheorwon, Jeolsan in Hwacheon, Bibong Mountain in Yanggu, Giryong Mountain in Inje, and Eungbong Mountain in Goseong.
Furthermore, the special event "Eco Hiking Challenge" will be held starting from Geumhak Mountain in Cheorwon on the 12th of this month, followed by Hwacheon, Yanggu, Inje, and Goseong in sequence. One hundred participants recruited through the BAC app will participate in the climb using a walking-through method rather than gathering at the event site.
