[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) announced that it has prepared a second supplementary budget totaling 56.3 billion KRW and submitted it to the district council on the 7th to revitalize the local economy affected by prolonged COVID-19 employment instability and to create a safe and pleasant urban environment.
As a result, the district’s total budget for this year is expected to reach 810.3 billion KRW, an increase of 56.3 billion KRW compared to the original budget.
The district explained that the budget was prepared with a focus on overcoming the livelihood crisis and providing stable public services by flexibly and proactively responding to the changing local situation, including the prolonged spread of COVID-19, the growing importance of strengthening social safety nets, and demands for improving a pleasant urban environment.
In particular, emphasis was placed on promoting local economic recovery through job creation and strengthening support for vulnerable groups, creating a safe urban environment through maintenance of facilities such as streets and green spaces, and improving convenience facilities in welfare, culture, and sports to enhance residents’ benefits and stabilize livelihoods.
First, 12.3 billion KRW was allocated to recover the stagnant livelihood economy and protect vulnerable groups.
A total of 2.55 billion KRW will be invested in projects supporting job creation, employment retention, and local economic revitalization, focusing on stabilizing the livelihoods of small business owners and vulnerable groups severely affected by COVID-19.
This amount includes ▲ 2 billion KRW for public work and hope jobs, middle-aged jobs, and senior citizen activity support ▲ 300 million KRW for employment retention subsidies ▲ 250 million KRW for modernization of Yeongdeungpo traditional market facilities.
Additionally, a budget of 9.7 billion KRW was prepared to protect and support vulnerable groups going through difficult times due to COVID-19. This includes ▲ 1.5 billion KRW for COVID-19 living expenses and emergency special care for the disabled ▲ 5.5 billion KRW to strengthen infant and toddler childcare services ▲ 2.7 billion KRW for disability activity support, focusing all efforts on stabilizing and assisting low-income vulnerable groups.
Moreover, the district will accelerate the creation of a safe and pleasant urban living environment with an investment of 7.8 billion KRW. First, 4 billion KRW will be invested in facility maintenance to prevent safety accidents. This includes ▲ 400 million KRW for flood prevention and facility reinforcement such as sewer pipe improvements and rainwater inlet maintenance ▲ 600 million KRW for maintenance of Anyangcheon walking and bicycle paths ▲ 3 billion KRW for opening long-unexecuted urban planning roads.
Along with this, ▲ 400 million KRW for creating pedestrian-friendly streets on Yeongdeungpo-ro and Yangsan-ro ▲ 1.25 billion KRW for maintenance of parks and street/green facilities ▲ 2 billion KRW for resource management helper projects in multi-family and single-family housing will be invested, totaling 3.65 billion KRW for urban environment maintenance and improvement.
Furthermore, 3.15 billion KRW will be invested in improving resident convenience facilities, striving to build high-quality welfare, cultural, and sports infrastructure. This includes ▲ 500 million KRW for improving Anyangcheon community sports facilities ▲ 500 million KRW for operating Times Square public cultural welfare spaces and YDP Future Lifelong Learning Center ▲ 150 million KRW for improving the space of the municipal Mullae Library ▲ 1 billion KRW for improving the environment of comprehensive social welfare centers, childcare facilities, and youth cultural houses, with a total of 2.15 billion KRW invested in reinforcing cultural and sports facility functions and creating a seamless welfare environment.
In addition, to foster an educational city based on lifelong education and support residents’ daily learning, 1 billion KRW was allocated for lifelong education voucher support and operation projects. Furthermore, 8.5 billion KRW in contingency funds and a total of 33 billion KRW were prepared for other major pending and policy projects to ensure smooth and effective budget execution.
This supplementary budget will be finalized after review and approval by the district council from the 14th to the 29th.
