Implementation of Voice Phishing Malicious App Blocking Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] KB Kookmin Bank announced on the 8th that it has implemented a 'Voice Phishing Malicious App Blocking Service' that detects and deletes malicious applications (apps) suspected of voice phishing immediately upon launching KB Star Banking or Liiv without logging in.
This service uses an artificial intelligence (AI) platform to collect and analyze apps distributed from all app stores worldwide in real time, identifying apps that deviate from the form of normal app files, enabling detection of malicious apps arbitrarily installed on customers' smartphones by fraudsters.
Existing malicious app detection technology only blocks apps listed on a blacklist of malicious apps that caused incidents in the past, so there was a limitation in detecting newly created malicious apps installed on customers' smartphones by fraudsters.
However, by applying this technology, it detects and blocks new types of malicious apps used in voice phishing (such as bank/institution impersonation, call interception, remote control apps), thereby preventing customer damage in advance. After the service was implemented, malicious apps were detected on about 10,000 smartphones that accessed the KB Star Banking app, and more than 77% of those customers deleted the malicious apps.
Meanwhile, KB Kookmin Bank added new fraud patterns to its existing AI-based Fraud Detection System (FDS), blocking about 680 cases of unauthorized transfers over the past three months and preventing voice phishing damages exceeding 6.5 billion KRW.

A KB Kookmin Bank official said, “When the KB Star Banking app is launched, malicious apps can be detected and blocked immediately regardless of the use of mobile banking services,” adding, “We will strive to effectively prevent the rapidly increasing voice phishing crimes and minimize customer damage.”
