Democratic Party to Announce Position on Former Minister Cho Kuk Incident Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, will make his first official statement regarding the controversy surrounding former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, who is set to publish his memoir on the 2nd.
According to multiple Democratic Party officials on the 1st, Leader Song is expected to express his position on the Cho Kuk incident at the ‘National Communication and Public Opinion Listening Report Meeting’ held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 2nd.
After the public opinion listening project event on that day, Leader Song told reporters in response to related questions, “Please wait until tomorrow. I will explain the comprehensive public opinion in detail.”
This apology is interpreted as a measure to prevent the ‘unfairness’ controversy, which was pointed out as one of the causes of the Democratic Party’s defeat in the April 7 by-elections, from spreading as a negative factor in the upcoming presidential election. Recently, with the publication of former Minister Cho Kuk’s memoir, voices within the Democratic Party have been divided between defending and criticizing him.
