President Moon Invites Heads of 4 Major Groups to Blue House Luncheon on the 2nd
Sharing Outcomes of the Korea-US Summit, Encouraging Companies... Interest in Lee Jae-yong Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman's Pardon Mention
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 2nd, President Moon Jae-in will invite the heads of the four major conglomerates?Samsung, Hyundai Motor, SK, and LG?to the Blue House for a luncheon meeting.
At the Blue House luncheon on the 2nd, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo are expected to attend. Samsung Electronics is reported to be represented by Vice Chairman Kim Ki-nam instead of Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
The Blue House luncheon is reportedly arranged as a gesture of gratitude to Samsung, Hyundai Motor, SK, and LG for their contributions to the success of the Korea-US summit. It is an occasion to share the achievements of the summit and to encourage large corporations that have strengthened Korea-US economic cooperation through substantial investments.
There is also a possibility that the issue of a pardon for Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong will arise during the meeting between President Moon and the heads of the four major groups.
Earlier, on the 10th of last month, during a Q&A session following his special speech on the 4th anniversary of his inauguration, President Moon stated, "I have been hearing many opinions regarding a pardon for Samsung Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong. Not only from the business community but also from religious circles, many petitions for such a pardon have been sent."
