Police Decide Not to Prosecute Assemblyman Song Eon-seok for 'Assaulting Duty Officer'
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The police have closed the investigation without prosecution against independent lawmaker Song Eon-seok, who was accused of assaulting party officials and using abusive language during his time as a member of the People Power Party.
According to the police on the 31st, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Violent Crime Investigation Unit decided not to prosecute Song, who was reported on the 27th for assault and defamation by false statements.
A police official stated, "The investigation was concluded without prosecution as the victims expressed that they did not wish to press charges." Assault and defamation are offenses that cannot be prosecuted without the victim's consent.
Song was accused by a civic group of assaulting party officials because his seat was not arranged in the 4.7 re-election and by-election counting room, and of making false statements by denying the incident during phone calls with media outlets.
