COVID-19 Vaccine 2,286 Doses Disposed Due to Deviation from Proper Temperature Conditions
Assemblyman Kang Ki-yoon: "Vaccine storage management is not properly handled amid difficulties in vaccine supply"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Congressman Kang Ki-yoon announced on the 31st that 2,286 doses of COVID-19 vaccines (1,143 people based on two doses) were discarded due to reasons such as deviation from proper storage temperature or container damage.
According to Congressman Kang's investigation of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, a total of 231 vials (2,286 doses), including 225 AstraZeneca vials (2,250 doses) and 6 Pfizer vials (36 doses), were discarded due to management negligence.
By type of incident, 92.6% of the total were due to 'deviation from proper temperature (214 vials)', which was the most common, followed by 'vaccine container damage (11 vials)', 'dilution process error (4 vials)', and 'vaccine expiration (2 vials)'.
According to the investigation data, among the total 46 institutions that caused management negligence, most were general hospitals and nursing hospitals, except for two vaccination centers.

Congressman Kang said, "In a situation where vaccine supply is difficult, vaccine storage management is not being properly maintained," and added, "The quarantine authorities must strengthen the vaccine management system and thoroughly educate to ensure vaccines are properly stored."
