Former Yonsei University Vice President and Two Professors Prosecuted for 'Children's Graduate School Admission Fraud'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Lee Kyung-tae, former vice president of Yonsei University International Campus, who is accused of illegally admitting his daughter to graduate school, along with two Yonsei University professors who were evaluation committee members at the time, have been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Choi Myung-gyu) announced on the 27th that former Vice President Lee was indicted without detention on charges of obstruction of business, and Professors Jang and Park, who were involved in the illegal admission, were also indicted without detention on charges of obstruction of business on the 23rd of last month. The prosecution decided not to indict seven others who were investigated for involvement in the illegal admission.
Professors Jang and Park were evaluation committee members when Lee's daughter, Ms. A, took the entrance exam for the general graduate school of Yonsei University's Department of Business Administration in 2016. They are accused of manipulating the oral exam scores of applicants along with six other professors who participated as evaluation committee members. In April of last year, the Ministry of Education requested an investigation by the prosecution based on the results of an audit related to the illegal admission.
Ms. A ranked 9th out of 16 applicants in the document screening but was found to have passed the final selection by receiving a perfect score of 100 on the oral exam.
