[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] False news claiming that Song Jeong-ae, Chief of Daejeon Police Agency, criticized the investigation team handling the case of university student the late Son Jeong-min, who was found dead after going missing at Seoul Hangang Park, has spread, prompting the police to respond.
The Cyber Investigation Unit of Daejeon Police Agency stated on the 27th, "We are reviewing whether the false information related to Chief Song Jeong-ae posted on YouTube contains any legal violations."
On YouTube, a video titled "Song Jeong-ae, Chief of Daejeon Police Agency: 'Strong reaction to Seoul police regarding the late Son Jeong-min case... The problem is not sitting at a desk waiting for results'" was uploaded the previous day.
The uploader of the video generated false news such as, "If this is our (Daejeon Police) ongoing investigation, we will focus on investigating witness A." The video even included a photo of Chief Song. By the afternoon, the video had surpassed 60,000 views and received nearly 400 comments.
