[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Yeonsu-gu, Incheon City, will reopen senior centers that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic exclusively for vaccinated individuals.
Considering the high vaccination rate among seniors aged 75 and older, the district will fully reopen all 154 senior centers in Yeonsu-gu starting from the 27th for seniors who have passed 14 days after their first vaccination dose.
In Yeonsu-gu, out of 14,824 seniors aged 75 and above, 12,070 agreed to receive the vaccine, and among them, 10,914 (90.4%) had completed their second dose as of the previous day.
The district plans to operate the senior centers focusing on health programs aimed at psychological healing and alleviating depression among the elderly. However, food consumption will be restricted.
This reopening of senior centers comes six months after the decision to temporarily close elderly leisure welfare facilities following the elevation to social distancing level 2 in November last year and risk analysis results. It is the first such move among basic local governments in the Incheon area this year.
Especially following the announcement by the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters the day before regarding support measures for daily life recovery for those who have completed COVID-19 vaccination, Yeonsu-gu, which has the highest vaccination reservation rate among seniors aged 75 and older, has proactively decided to reopen the senior centers.
