'Burning Sun Police Chief' Yoon Gyu-geun Appeals Against Fine in Second Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Yoon Gyu-geun, the so-called 'Burning Sun Police Chief' accused of collusion with singer Seungri (real name Lee Seunghyun) and others, has filed an appeal against the appellate court ruling that sentenced him to a fine.
According to the legal community on the 26th, Yoon's lawyer submitted a notice of appeal to the Seoul High Court on the same day. Yoon was known as the 'Police Chief' in the KakaoTalk chat rooms of celebrities including Seungri, and suspicions of collusion with entertainers arose during the investigation of the Burning Sun club scandal.
Yoon was found guilty in the second trial of violating the Capital Markets Act by trading stocks using undisclosed information provided by former CEO Jeong of Nokwon C&I (formerly Cubes), and of instructing Jeong to delete mobile phone messages (obstruction of evidence). He was sentenced to a fine of 20 million KRW and a confiscation of 3.19 million KRW.
Yoon was also found guilty of requesting Jeong to delete mobile phone data on March 15, 2019, in an attempt to conceal the fact that he had obtained raid information about the 'Monkey Museum' pub, established by Seungri, after the Burning Sun scandal broke out.
