[Golf Topic] The Open 'Will There Be Spectators This Year?'..."75% Hope for Audience Admission"
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The 'oldest major' The Open is expected to be held with spectators this year.
The tournament organizer, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), stated on the 26th (Korean time) that they hope to admit spectators up to 75% of the venue's capacity. Last year, the event could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, it will take place over four days starting July 15 at Royal St George's in England. CEO Martin Slumbers said, "We plan to install large grandstands at the 18th hole green and the 1st hole teeing ground as before," adding, "We hope as many spectators as possible will attend."

Regarding the incident last week at the major PGA Championship where numerous spectators broke through control lines, he mentioned, "It is a tradition of The Open for galleries to follow the final group on the last day," emphasizing that "finding the right balance is important."
