On the 26th, according to the legal community, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Presiding Judge Noh Hoseong) sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and causing injury while obstructing a special public official, to 2 years in prison with a 3-year suspension. The court stated, "The defendant operated the motorcycle while intoxicated and endangered the physical safety of the police officer, which is highly condemnable," but added, "Considering that the crime was impulsive, the motorcycle was disposed of, and the defendant has shown remorse," as reasons for the sentencing.

Mr. A was indicted for riding a motorcycle approximately 100 meters in a heavily intoxicated state on a road in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, last September. He is also charged with injuring a police officer by dragging him about 700 meters on the motorcycle while the officer was conducting a sobriety check due to the defendant not wearing a helmet. At the time, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was 0.221%, far exceeding the license cancellation limit. It was investigated that he attempted to flee fearing the discovery of his drunk driving, which led to this crime.
