Youngest MP in UK in 20s Takes Leave Due to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The youngest Member of Parliament in the UK is taking a leave of absence due to mental health issues.
According to the BBC and other UK media, Nadia Whittome (24), a Labour Party MP, revealed in a statement on the 25th (local time) that she is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and has decided to take a few weeks off on medical advice.
Born in August 1996 and also identifying as LGBTQ+, she was elected in the 2019 general election representing the Nottingham East constituency.
MP Whittome said she believes it is important to be honest about experiencing mental health problems, specifically PTSD.
In a recent article she wrote about mental health crises, she pointed out that COVID-19 has worsened these issues and that young people are the most affected.
