Tablets Used in Population and Housing Census Distributed to Schools for Educational Purposes
Ministry of Education and Statistics Korea Distribute Over 10,000 Tablet PCs to Schools
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education has decided to repurpose digital devices used in the Statistics Korea Population and Housing Census for educational use.
On the 25th, the Ministry of Education announced that, in cooperation with Statistics Korea, it will distribute 11,250 tablet PCs to national elementary, middle, and special schools to improve the digital learning environment in schools.
As classes using digital devices within schools have significantly increased due to the implementation of remote learning, the Ministry of Education and Statistics Korea collaborated to jointly utilize digital resources. The distributed tablet PCs will be used diversely by each school for public learning management systems, video conferencing, artificial intelligence (AI) classes, electronic book usage, and more.
The digital devices used during last year’s Population and Housing Census were in excellent condition, having been used only about once. Statistics Korea was responsible for device inspection, software initialization, and repackaging, while the Ministry of Education conducted demand surveys and handled delivery to schools.
After a two-month pilot operation at three schools, the digital devices were pre-checked and inspected to ensure they could be used in classes. The IT coordinators at the schools checked for any issues such as the operation of remote learning programs.
