Positive Evaluation for Strawless Cup Coffee, Label-Free Bottled Water 'Eolsu-eol水', and Circular Resource Collection Robot
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Korea Seven, operator of convenience store Seven Eleven, announced on the 25th that it has become the first in the convenience store industry to receive the highest AAA grade in the international eco-certification 'GRP (Guidelines for Reducing Plastic Waste & Sustainable Ocean and Climate Action Acceleration)' selected as a UN (United Nations) best practice.
GRP is a global climate response guideline for reducing plastic and creating a sustainable marine environment, an international eco-certification system selected as a best practice by the UN. It is announced every May by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Association through 30 major backgrounds and 39 global guidelines (indicators) addressing global environmental issues such as climate change response, plastic reduction, and marine ecosystem protection.
Seven Eleven stated that it received high evaluation for its consistent promotion of eco-friendly policies and continuous efforts to achieve results accordingly in this assessment. It explained that by declaring ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management in January, it laid the foundation for full-scale eco-friendly activities in the convenience store industry, and based on this, it has been recognized for launching various eco-friendly products and conducting social contribution activities.
Seven Eleven said, "We attracted attention with eco-friendly products such as the industry's first developed strawless cup coffee, ready meals using eco-friendly containers, and label-free bottled water 'Eolsu-eol水'." It added, "The operation of the 'Circular Resource Collection Robot' for plastic resource circulation and the 'Label Removal is the Talk' campaign to promote proper disposal of PET bottles in daily life also received positive evaluations." It further noted that customer-facing eco-friendly campaigns through ESG digital signage installation, activation of Last Order for discounted sales of near-expiration products, and Seven App point accumulation for purchasing eco-friendly products also received favorable responses.
Choi Kyung-ho, CEO of Seven Eleven, said, "Achieving the GRP AAA grade as the first in the domestic convenience store industry is the result of efforts made together with customers, nationwide store owners, and employees." He added, "We are honored that Seven Eleven's 'Green7' activities have been recognized through prestigious international certifications including the UN. We will continue to strive to become a social enterprise that creates sustainable future value."

Meanwhile, the GRP certification started in 2017 based on the UN Ocean Conference and was established based on major UN environmental agreements and summit reports such as the UN SDGs, UN Paris Climate Change Agreement (COP21), and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports. It evaluates environmental performance across six industry sectors and divides companies into the top 40% and bottom 60% groups.
