Gyeongnam Province Actively Fosters Elevator Industry as a Blue Ocean for Gyeongnam Manufacturing Sector
KRW 37.1 Billion Invested, Elevator Industry Complex and Test Tower Scheduled for Completion in 2022
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do held a groundbreaking ceremony for the World Elevator Hub City Development Project and the Elevator Safety Technology Institute Test Tower simultaneously on the morning of the 24th at Daesan-ri, Namsang-myeon, Geochang-gun.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by about 70 officials, including Park Jong-won, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongnam Province, Kim Hee-gyeom, Vice Minister of Safety at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gu In-mo, Mayor of Geochang County, provincial council members, the Elevator Association, and heads of organizations.
The ceremony proceeded in the order of progress report on the World Elevator Hub City Development Project and the new test tower construction project, safety construction resolution, and a ceremonial groundbreaking ritual.
The World Elevator Hub City Development Project is a project to create an industrial cooperation zone for the co-growth of small and medium enterprises by investing a total project cost of 24.1 billion KRW, including national and provincial funds, within the Geochang Elevator Valley Industrial Complex.
The Elevator Industry Complex Building, dormitory, and test building will be constructed on a 3-story, 6,037㎡ site, with completion targeted for December next year.
The Elevator Industry Complex Building will play a central role in the elevator industry cluster by fostering domestic and international elevator specialists, conducting research and development, and performing safety certification tests.
The Elevator Safety Technology Institute Test Tower will be a 6-story, 2,116㎡ facility, with a total investment of 13 billion KRW for high-speed elevator certification test facilities, scheduled for completion in November next year.
The province plans to thoroughly prepare procedures to revitalize the elevator industry cooperation zone, including surveys of tenant company demands, establishment of research and development and quality testing equipment, and educational facilities, in line with the construction progress.

Meanwhile, since 2022, the province has planned to invest 20 billion KRW over three years to establish a smart elevator demonstration base on existing elevators to promote the advancement of the Gyeongnam elevator industry.
