Suncheon-si Publishes Life Books for Elderly Residents of Care Anshim Housing
Dreaming with the Book of 80 Lives
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 24th that the elderly residents of Donggodongrak Care Safety Housing published a life storybook to mark the first anniversary of their move-in.
As part of the community-integrated care pilot project operated by Suncheon City, the Care Safety Housing, which began housing seven elderly households requiring care during recovery after hospital discharge in July last year, provides residential, healthcare, and health care services, allowing them to live like family.
The elderly, reflecting on their lives in their 80s and 90s, shared the pains and memories of their era and published a book expressing their long life journey through simple and modest illustrations.
This book contains heartfelt stories of love and affection for their children, gratitude toward people around them that they had not expressed before, reflections on their eventful past, encouragement for their present selves, and the recovery of a healthy life.
One of the co-authors among the elderly said, “At Donggodongrak Care Safety Housing, I have come to dream of a new life with good people,” adding, “As I lived, I ended up publishing a book. Through the process of writing this book, I realized that my precious and valuable remaining life is living as myself, not just as a wife, mother, or grandmother,” expressing joy and pride.
