Gwangju City Supports Implantable Pet Dog Registration Fees
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 24th that it is supporting the cost of implantable animal registration for companion dogs for the first time this year to reduce the occurrence of abandoned animals.
The support target is companion dogs aged 2 months or older, and up to 90,000 KRW is supported for up to 3 dogs per companion dog owner (hereinafter referred to as ‘companion’) with a resident registration address in Gwangju.
The animal registration fee is paid by the companion visiting a veterinary hospital to register the animal with an implantable chip, and when the veterinary hospital fills out the support application form, the district office deposits the support fund into the companion’s account.
Park Jeong-hwan, Director of the Job and Economy Office, said, “The animal registration rate in Gwangju is lower than the national average, and abandoned animals are increasing every year. To activate animal registration using implantable chips, which are the most effective in preventing abandoned animals, we introduced a policy to support part of the registration fee to companions. We hope companions will register their animals with implantable chips, which have great preventive effects against abandoned animals and almost no side effects.”
Meanwhile, the animal registration system, implemented since 2013, is a system that allows any companion to register their animals at animal registration agencies (veterinary hospitals) designated by the district office so that lost companion dogs can be easily found.
