Suncheon-si Promotes Water Conservation Campaign for Tap Water in Waterworks
Daily Goal of Saving 12ℓ of Water per Person in Everyday Life
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 21st that it will promote a "Water-saving Campaign in Daily Life" to reduce the daily per capita tap water usage by 12 liters, as a large amount of tap water is wasted in daily life, increasing tap water production costs and sewage treatment expenses.
If one person saves 12 liters of tap water per day, the annual tap water usage will decrease by about 1.2 million tons, saving approximately 1.9 billion KRW, including 1.2 billion KRW in tap water production costs and 700 million KRW in sewage treatment costs.
The water-saving campaign can be practiced easily at homes, institutions, organizations, and businesses.
First, in each household, about 40% of tap water can be saved by using a kitchen dishwashing tub, reducing shower time by half (turning off the faucet while soaping), collecting laundry before washing, and attaching faucet water-saving devices.
Bathing and lodging facilities and public restrooms that use large amounts of tap water must install water-saving equipment.
The city will strengthen guidance and inspections regarding the installation of water-saving equipment and will discover exemplary cases of water-saving campaigns, awarding commendations for outstanding examples.
