Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, Formulates 1st Supplementary Budget Proposal
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education submitted the first supplementary budget proposal for 2021, amounting to 225.2 billion KRW, to the Jeonnam Provincial Council on the 21st.
This supplementary budget is funded by 136.6 billion KRW from central government transfers, 50.2 billion KRW from local government transfers, and 23.8 billion KRW from self-generated revenue.
If the supplementary budget passes the provincial council, the final budget for this year will increase by 6.2% compared to the original budget of 3.6463 trillion KRW, reaching 3.8715 trillion KRW.
The main projects include ▲113 billion KRW for infectious disease spread response ▲8.7 billion KRW for strengthening student safety and health ▲11.3 billion KRW for establishing a future education foundation such as the Creative Convergence Education Center ▲3.1 billion KRW for enhancing learning welfare including the rural and fishing village study abroad program ▲2.7 billion KRW for strengthening educational welfare ▲86.5 billion KRW for facility projects such as improving the educational environment.
The Office of Education secured 6.5 billion KRW by reorganizing projects included in the main budget to reduce school workload and efficiently manage resources, and adjusted 10.8 billion KRW of expenditure expected to be unused or carried over to other projects requiring budget input.
Kim Chun-ho, Director of Administration, said, “This supplementary budget focuses on creating a safe learning environment amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and establishing a sustainable future education foundation in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era.”

This supplementary budget proposal will be finalized after review and approval at the 353rd regular session of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, held from the 1st to the 16th of next month.
