[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A man in his 20s who blackmailed a coworker by threatening to distribute a sex video and extorted more than 10 million won was sentenced to prison and detained in court during the second trial.
According to the legal community on the 21st, the Criminal Appeals Division 2 of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Bu Sang-jun) sentenced Park Mo (27), who was tried on charges of extortion, to 10 months in prison and ordered compensation to the victim.
Park is accused of having sex with the victim in September 2019 and then threatening the victim until December of the same year by threatening to spread the sex video. During this period, Park extorted 13.3 million won in four installments.
He threatened the victim by saying, "I recorded the sex scene on video yesterday," and "If you don't pay, I will show the video to your mother and coworkers," thereby extorting money. He is also accused of forcing the victim to play a drinking game and extorting money when the victim lost.
The first trial court sentenced Park to six months in prison with a three-year probation, ordered probation, 120 hours of community service, and compensation of 13.3 million won.
However, the second trial accepted the prosecution's claim that the sentence was too light, sentenced him to 10 months in prison, and detained him in court.
