Aniplus Reports Record Q1 Performance... "Strong Results in Animation Sector"
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Aniplus Co., Ltd., a KOSDAQ-listed global content and media company, announced on the 21st that it achieved its highest-ever performance in the first quarter.
Aniplus recorded an operating profit of 2.9 billion KRW on a consolidated basis in the first quarter, successfully turning operating profit positive on a quarterly basis. Sales increased by 135% year-on-year to 8.5 billion KRW, and net profit turned positive at 2.4 billion KRW.
A company representative stated, “The scale of operating profit in the first quarter increased significantly, and the operating profit margin also improved sharply to 34.1%. Accordingly, we expect that this year’s annual sales will achieve a quantum jump, far surpassing the previous record high sales of 19.9 billion KRW in 2018.”
The core animation business posted strong results due to an expanded viewer base amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and increased OTT supply sales through platforms such as Netflix and Coupang. Subsidiaries also performed well. The drama production company Wemade’s production revenue from ‘Love Scene Number (WAVVE.MBC, aired in February)’ was reflected in the first quarter results, and Plus Media Networks Asia, which operates Aniplus Asia and the K-Plus channel in the Asian region, saw improved performance as consumption on IPTV and OTT platforms became more active.
