eBay Korea Announces Recruitment for Participants in the 11th Export Star Competition
Applications Accepted on eBay Korea Official Seller Site Until September 30
Compete in Overseas Sales Capabilities via eBay Until December
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] eBay Korea announced on the 21st that it is recruiting participants for the "11th eBay Export Star" competition until September 30.
Started in 2011 as the first competition, eBay Export Star is Korea's first online seller direct sales contest aimed at discovering and nurturing new sellers who wish to export overseas through eBay. Over the past 10 years, it has cultivated more than 17,000 global sellers. In a situation where external activities have been restricted due to COVID-19, it provides opportunities to promote and sell products worldwide online.
Despite all business briefings and training being conducted through eBay's official overseas sales YouTube channel due to COVID-19, the 10th event held last year saw participation from as many as 2,200 small and medium sellers. Sellers from Gmarket Global Shop also participated alongside eBay sellers, achieving a transaction amount of 5.3 billion KRW.
Ryu Gang-sik, the grand prize winner in the new seller category last year, said, "The overseas delivery service eGS, which solves delivery issues caused by COVID-19, was a great help." Ryu Gang-sik, a one-person seller who started his business through eBay Export Star mentoring education while preparing for the tax exam, sold coffee supplies and Hallyu miscellaneous goods, recording total sales of $250,000 and winning the top prize of 10 million KRW.
The 11th competition is open to anyone interested in online export, whether general public or sellers. Applications can be submitted on the "eBay Korea Official Seller Site" until September 30. Participants will compete in overseas sales capabilities on the eBay platform for about eight months until December 30. The results announcement and awards ceremony will be held in February 2022.
During the competition period, eBay Korea will provide practical support and benefits worth a total of 100 million KRW to participants. The eBay YouTube education channel will be expanded to provide systematic, customized free training for each seller until October. Various promotions that directly help store operation, publicity, and marketing will also be supported. An eBay Seller Cafe will be operated where participants can receive immediate consulting from professional instructors for any issues or questions arising during the competition. The eGS delivery service, which resolves logistics difficulties caused by COVID-19, will also be supported.
This year, a total prize of 30 million KRW will be awarded. For fair judging, the competition will be divided into new sellers (those who started selling in 2020) and existing sellers (those who started selling before 2020). Evaluation criteria include sales amount, number of sales items, purchase conversion rate, number of product registrations, innovation, buyer response, and event participation. A total of seven winners will be selected: ▲Grand Prize 10 million KRW (1 person) ▲Excellence Award 5 million KRW (2 persons) ▲Merit Award 3 million KRW (2 persons) ▲eGS Delivery Excellence Award 2 million KRW (1 person) ▲University Youth Startup Seller Award 2 million KRW (1 person).
