Seoul Gangseo-gu Opens 365-Day Smart Library at Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station on Line 9
Over 500 Books Available, Unmanned Borrowing and Returning Service Implemented...Up to 2 Books Per Person, Borrowing Period Within 14 Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) has opened the Yangcheonhyanggyo Station Smart Library.
This is to help residents conveniently borrow books anytime, 365 days a year, close to their location. This is the fifth such facility following Magok Station, Ujangsan Station, Kkachisan Station on Line 5, and the entrance of Gangseo-gu Office.
The Smart Library is an unmanned device that allows book borrowing and returning, enabling convenient access to books without time restrictions 365 days a year.
The district installed the Smart Library at Yangcheonhyanggyo Station on Line 9, which has a high floating population and good accessibility, allowing people to easily borrow books even while on the move.
Users can search for desired books among the loaded titles through the touchscreen attached to the outside of the device. A keypad is installed at the bottom of the device to accommodate children and residents using wheelchairs.
About 500 books, including popular, new releases, and bestsellers, are loaded, and the books will be replaced semiannually to provide residents with a variety of reading materials.
Anyone holding a Gangseo-gu Integrated Library membership card (including mobile membership cards) can use the service, which operates from 5 a.m. to midnight, 365 days a year, regardless of weekdays or weekends.
Each person can borrow up to two books for up to 14 days, and returns must be made at the Smart Library from which the books were borrowed.
Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “The Smart Library has the advantage of allowing convenient, contactless borrowing of books in highly accessible locations,” and added, “We will continue to expand related services so that books can be closer to daily life.”

Meanwhile, the four Smart Libraries operating since November 2019 have recorded over 30,000 uses to date.
