Pohang City Establishes 'Welfare Allowance' for Spouses of Fallen War Veterans
Payment of 150,000 KRW at the end of the quarter for those aged 65 and over
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Pohang City announced on the 20th that, following the revision and promulgation of the 'Ordinance on Support for Veterans' in September last year, it will provide welfare allowances to the spouses of deceased veterans starting from July 1 this year.
In the case of a veteran's death, the spouse (aged 65 or older) residing in Pohang City will receive a monthly allowance of 50,000 KRW, with 150,000 KRW paid quarterly into individual accounts.
Pohang City secured the budget for the widow welfare allowance (city funds) in the supplementary budget in May this year, began accepting applications from June 15, and plans to provide support from July once the recipients are confirmed.
Applications for the spouse welfare allowance are accepted at any time. Applicants must bring documents verifying the deceased veteran, proof of being the veteran's spouse, and a copy of their bankbook to the administrative welfare center of their local eup, myeon, or dong to apply in person.
