Accepting Nominations for Government Awards for Contributions to Hangul Development Until the 16th of Next Month

View original imageOn the 575th anniversary of Hangeul Day, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 20th that it will award individuals who have made significant contributions to the promotion and development of Hangeul. Nominations will be accepted until the 16th of next month. Eligible candidates include citizens, foreigners, or organizations that have contributed to the promotion of Hangeul's excellence, research in Korean linguistics and Korean literature, globalization of Hangeul, and the advancement of Hangeul-related industries. Recommendation letters can be submitted via official documents or email. Details regarding the award, including nomination forms, can be found on the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Republic of Korea Awards websites.

Since 1990, the Ministry has annually commemorated Hangeul Day by awarding government honors to individuals who have contributed to the research, education, and dissemination of Hangeul. To date, 255 recipients have been honored, including Kim Wanjin, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University (Preservation Culture Medal), Hyeon Ryongun, Chairman of the Chinese Korean Language Information Processing Society (Flower Crown Culture Medal), Cha Jaegyeong, Vice Chairman of the Sejong the Great Memorial Association, Lee Bongwon, Representative of People Who Love the Korean Alphabet, and Kang Jaehyung, announcer at Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (all awarded the Cultural Medal).
