KT Launches AMD Server Cloud Product, First Among Domestic Providers
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] KT announced on the 19th that it will launch the first AMD processor-based virtual server IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) product among domestic cloud providers. The AMD server is priced at about 80% of the cost of existing servers with the same specifications, enabling enterprise customers to use high-performance computing resources at a lower price.
The AMD server can be applied to various business areas such as general web, middleware, database, and big data analysis. The company explained that existing systems can be easily migrated since it uses the industry-standard x86 architecture, making it suitable for customers who require excellent performance relative to price.
According to KT’s own verification results, the AMD server demonstrated performance comparable to Intel server CPUs Cascade running on the KT Cloud D1 platform. Therefore, enterprise customers preparing for large-scale deployments are expected to significantly reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) by utilizing AMD servers.
The AMD server is provided on KT Cloud’s ‘D1 platform,’ which offers enhanced security and flexibility compared to general public cloud zones. After launch, KT plans to continuously expand the service not only on the D1 platform but also on KT G-Cloud (public cloud zone) and F-Cloud (financial cloud zone).
The D1 platform is highly regarded for its security stability, equipped with physical security devices such as IPS, firewalls, and VPNs. It also allows flexible creation of up to 15 DMZs and private networks, and all network and firewall policies can be easily configured within the cloud console. In addition to servers with the same specifications as previously offered (64vCore x 64GB), high-spec servers with up to 128vCore x 256GB memory are also available.
To commemorate the launch of the AMD server, KT will offer a 50% discount on the D1 platform’s AMD server service to customers who subscribe by the end of December 2021. Detailed information about the promotion can be found on the KT Cloud website (https://cloud.kt.com/promotion/).
