Chinese State Media: "US Disappoints the World and Threatens Muslims"
Criticism of US Pro-Israel Bias in Palestinian Conflict
"Malicious Accusations of Xinjiang Uyghur Muslim Genocide"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The Chinese state-run media Global Times criticized the United States in an editorial for blatantly taking Israel-biased actions regarding the Palestinian conflict, while claiming that the human rights abuses against Muslims in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as asserted by the U.S. and Western societies, are malicious false information. China, which has faced strong international criticism led by the U.S. and the West over human rights issues in Hong Kong, Tibet, and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, appears to have launched a full-scale counterattack as the Palestinian conflict has become an international issue.
On the 18th, the Chinese state-run Global Times stated in an editorial, "About 200 people have died in Gaza due to Israeli airstrikes, and the U.S.'s bias toward Israel has created a new humanitarian disaster," adding, "The Joe Biden administration has shown indifference to Palestinian human rights while accusing China of massacring Muslims in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with false information." It further criticized, "The Biden administration raises human rights as the core of its foreign policy but consistently applies double standards and hypocrisy, forcing the international community to become accustomed to America's shamelessness."
Earlier that day, the White House announced that President Biden had a phone call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and stated that it would intervene and support ceasefire efforts with Palestine. However, following the previous day, international criticism arose again as the U.S. emphasized Israel's right to self-defense and continued its Israel-biased measures.
The Global Times emphasized, "Although bloodshed is occurring in Gaza, the United Nations Security Council remains silent. This is because the U.S. is paralyzing organizations that should maintain peace and alleviate suffering," adding, "The 21st century must not be an era in which humanity openly tolerates such massacres."

The Chinese government's strong criticism of the U.S.'s Israel bias in the Palestinian issue through state-run media is analyzed as a counterattack against the U.S. government's earlier criticism of human rights abuses in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Previously, Western countries including the U.S., the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom, and Canada jointly imposed sanctions on March 22 regarding human rights abuses in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. In response, China retaliated by sanctioning U.S. and EU officials known to have led those sanctions, escalating tensions between the two sides.
