Gyeongbuk Province Strengthens Management of Abandoned Construction Sites... On-Site Survey Until End of June
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 17th that it will strengthen inspections to improve the appearance and ensure safety of construction sites that have been abandoned due to halted construction.
Since the enforcement of the "Special Measures Act on the Maintenance of Long-term Abandoned Buildings with Halted Construction" in 2014, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport conducted a survey on buildings with halted construction. As a result, 30 sites in 14 cities and counties within Gyeongsangbuk-do were identified as buildings with halted construction. Currently, 7 sites have been completed or demolished, while 23 sites in 13 cities and counties remain as buildings with halted construction.
Gyeongsangbuk-do, in cooperation with cities and counties, will form an inspection team and conduct interviews with stakeholders, safety facility checks, and on-site inspections of long-term abandoned buildings with halted construction for one month starting from the 17th.

Park Dong-yeop, Director of the Construction and Urban Development Bureau, stated, "We will identify the current status and problems of abandoned buildings with halted construction and prepare improvement measures." He added, "Since public leadership is essential for prompt maintenance, we will continuously request institutional improvements and national funding support from central government ministries."
