Yongsan-gu Y Valley Urban Regeneration... Improvement of Pedestrian Environment from Electron Land to Najin Sangga
As part of the Y Valley urban regeneration seed project, sidewalk and electrical facility maintenance and obstacle removal on Cheongparo 74-132, 830m section
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjang Hyun) is undertaking pedestrian environment improvements along the 830m section from Cheongparo 74 (Electroland) to 132 (Najin Shopping Center) as part of the Yongsan Electronics Market (Y Valley) urban regeneration pilot project from this month through the end of the year.
The construction includes sidewalk block paving (45.1a), asphalt paving (24.8a), gutter maintenance (1474m), adjustment of pedestrian obstacles (relocation and removal of fire hydrants, utility poles, etc.), integration of streetlight and traffic signal facilities (8 locations), integration of streetlights, traffic signals, and controllers (1 location), integration of streetlights and distribution boxes (3 locations), and integration of traffic signals and controllers (1 location).
The focus is on creating a pedestrian-friendly city through eco-friendly sidewalk paving and removal of obstacles.
A district official stated, “The sidewalks around Yongsan Electronics Market are old, damaged, and sunken, making walking inconvenient and significantly detracting from the urban aesthetics. To improve this, we will pave using eco-friendly and visually superior concrete heat-resistant blocks.”
Additionally, the official emphasized, “By integrating streetlight and traffic signal poles with similar functions, pedestrian space can be expanded. This will also enhance pedestrian visibility and safety around crosswalks.”
The project budget is 1.8 billion KRW, fully funded by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Y Valley (covering 212,123㎡ around 51-30 Wonhyo-ro 3-ga, Yongsan-gu, Seoul) was selected as a Seoul-type urban regeneration activation area in 2018. A total of 20 pilot (core) projects aimed at creating a digital maker city will receive 20 billion KRW in funding by next year.
Besides pedestrian environment improvements, major pilot projects include ▲ revitalizing the operation of the Electronics Market’s Sangsangga ▲ creating startup hubs utilizing vacant spaces ▲ establishing integrated governance.
A resident (merchant) public contest will also be held over seven months from May to November.
