Gwangju City to Host International Conference on State Violence and Trauma on the 19th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Trauma Center announced on the 16th that it will hold the 2021 International Conference on State Violence and Trauma on the 19th at the 5·18 Memorial Culture Center.
The International Conference on State Violence and Trauma is an academic event held since 2013 to share healing experiences with domestic and international experts. This year, it will be held as part of the Gwangju Democracy Forum hosted by the 5·18 Memorial Foundation.
Gwangju City, recognizing the need for a specialized healing institution for trauma recovery of victims of state violence, is conducting a commissioned project for trauma healing activities related to state violence under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Accordingly, the Gwangju Trauma Center operates various programs to help survivors of state violence and their families heal their bodies and minds in the best possible environment and regain healthy daily lives.
Under the theme of "Establishing Healing Spaces for Trauma from State Violence," this conference will be chaired by Yoon Jin-sang, director of the Gwangju Trauma Center. Keynote speeches include "For Healing Spaces and New Communal Bonds" by Professor Han Hong-gu of Sungkonghoe University, "Recovery-Promoting Environments for Survivors of State Violence" by Professor Choi Hyun-jung of Chungbuk National University, and "Psychological Healing Spaces for Recovery and Growth" by Professor Seo Young-seok of Yonsei University.
Discussion will be led by Professor Choi Jeong-gi of Chonnam National University and Professor Lee Dong-gi of Kangwon National University Graduate School.
