[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] On the 14th, Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, participated in the ‘Children’s Traffic Safety Relay Challenge’ to establish a culture of traffic safety within school zones at the Communication Cooperation Office of the district office.
The Children’s Traffic Safety Relay Challenge is a participatory public campaign initiated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in December last year. It was designed to build national consensus on establishing a traffic culture that prioritizes preventing traffic accidents and protecting children within school zones.
Mayor Lee Dong-jin, who joined the campaign after being nominated as Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye on the 11th, delivered the practical message for school zones: ‘Stop at 1 step, look both ways at 2, wait for 3 seconds, prevent 4 dangers.’
The slogan ‘Stop at 1 step, look both ways at 2, wait for 3 seconds, prevent 4 dangers’ is a behavioral guideline aimed at preventing the most common type of child traffic accidents?crossing accidents [72% of traffic accidents in school zones in 2019 were crossing accidents (63 out of 87 cases)]. It applies to both children and drivers and is easy to remember due to its sequential numbers and rhythm.
