Baemin Delivery Robot Navigates Inside Large Buildings in Gwanghwamun
DL E&C and Building Delivery Robot Demonstration and Service Development MOU
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Baedal Minjok's indoor delivery robot 'Dilly Tower' will be seen navigating inside urban buildings in Gwanghwamun, Seoul as early as next month. Woowa Brothers (CEO Kim Beom-jun), the operator of Baemin, announced on the 14th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 'Demonstration of Autonomous Delivery Robot Technology within Buildings and Development of Service Models' with DL E&C (CEO Ma Chang-min).
Through this MOU, the two companies plan to pilot operate Baemin's delivery robots in DL E&C's buildings. Baemin intends to showcase a delivery system where Dilly Tower can smoothly perform deliveries even in large buildings housing thousands of residents. DL E&C aims to provide high-quality robot delivery services to office workers in large offices and residents in apartment complexes.
The first operation will be launched next month at D Tower Gwanghwamun located in Cheongjin-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. This building, completed by DL E&C in 2014, is a large-scale mixed-use commercial and office building with 8 basement floors and 24 above-ground floors, currently housing 13 companies and about 4,000 residents. Dilly Tower will deliver simple food and beverages from a cafe on basement level 1 to various offices for these residents. Baemin plans to start with one Dilly Tower robot initially but will increase the number of units and expand to other stores within the building depending on usage trends.
Through this pilot operation of Dilly Tower, Baemin will demonstrate advanced service operation capabilities, including a robot control system and a new elevator integration system, reflecting accumulated know-how. The ability of delivery robots to smoothly perform delivery tasks even when linked with more than ten elevators inside a large building will be verified.
