Jeong Seung-il, Former Vice Minister of Industry, Appointed as CEO of KEPCO... To Be Confirmed at the General Meeting on the 28th
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Jeong Seung-il, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, will be appointed as the new President of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
KEPCO announced on the 13th that it will hold an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders at its headquarters in Naju, Jeollanam-do on the 28th to propose the appointment of former Vice Minister Jeong Seung-il as President.
According to the Act on the Management of Public Institutions, the KEPCO President is finally appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy after the Executive Recommendation Committee nominates multiple candidates, the Government Public Institution Management Committee deliberates and resolves, and the KEPCO board of directors and shareholders' meeting approve.
Former Vice Minister Jeong is from Seoul and graduated from Kyungseong High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Business Administration. He passed the 33rd Administrative Examination and began his public service career in 1990 at the Ministry of Power Resources. He has held key positions in industry, trade, and resources, including Director of the Semiconductor and Electric Division, Director of Energy Industry Policy, Director of Free Trade Agreement Policy, Director of Trade and Investment, and Director of Energy Resources at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. In 2018, he served as President of Korea Gas Corporation.

At the shareholders' meeting, KEPCO will also propose the appointment of Park Heon-gyu, former Head of KEPCO's Win-Win Development Headquarters, as Executive Director (Vice President), and Park Hyo-seong, former Consul General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New York, as Outside Director and Audit Committee member.
