Popularity of Conveniently Packaged Fruits... Sales Volume Increased by 92%
Shinsegae Food Reports Increased Sales of Small-Pack Convenience Fruits in Q1
Preferred for No Washing Hassle and Reduced Food Waste
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Conveniently packaged small portions of fruit are gaining popularity.
According to Shinsegae Food on the 13th, sales of conveniently packaged small portions of fruit in the first quarter of this year increased by 92% compared to the same period last year. The sales growth rate of cut pineapple was the highest at 105%, followed by mixed fruit (102%) containing kiwi, grapes, pineapple, and tomatoes, and Shine Muscat grapes (84%) that can be eaten seedless and with the skin.
In this regard, Shinsegae Food explained, "Conveniently packaged small portions of fruit are gaining favor mainly among single-person and two-person households because they eliminate the hassle of washing, preparing, and discarding peels, and can be enjoyed in reasonable prices ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 won according to the amount needed, which also prevents food waste." They also pointed out that a major reason for the increase is the sharp rise in consumers purchasing small packaged cut fruit through online mall dawn delivery to enjoy as breakfast at home or lunch boxes at work.
In fact, while the total sales volume of conveniently packaged small portions of fruit on SSG.com in the first quarter increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, sales through dawn delivery showed a nearly double growth rate of 25%. Among the conveniently packaged small portions of fruit sold through dawn delivery, bananas (2 pieces), which are often chosen as meal replacements, showed the most remarkable increase with sales rising by 232%.
Noting the increase in sales and the recent rise in consumers purchasing conveniently packaged small portions of fruit as snacks for outdoor outings, Shinsegae Food newly launched eight types of fruit lunch boxes. Depending on the type, they contain high-quality fresh fruits such as apples, tomatoes, pineapples, grapes, and kiwis in portions of 180 to 200 grams, suitable for one person. They are sold at E-Mart, priced between 2,480 and 3,480 won.
