The county council first strongly condemned and urged the withdrawal of the Japanese government’s official announcement on the 13th of last month to discharge 1.25 million tons of radioactive contaminated water generated from the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident into the ocean.
Representative Lee Yo-jin, who proposed the resolution, emphasized, “The Japanese government’s decision to discharge nuclear power plant contaminated water into the ocean is an arrogant and irresponsible measure unilaterally made without the understanding or consultation of neighboring countries and the international community,” adding, “This decision, which threatens the safety of people worldwide, must be immediately withdrawn.”
He continued, “Despite having other alternatives, the Japanese government decided on reckless ocean discharge solely because it costs less,” criticizing the move and urging, “Related information must be transparently shared so that objective verification acceptable to neighboring countries and the international community can be conducted.”
Additionally, through a proposal led by Councilor Kim Won-jung, the county council urged the government to include the plan to expand and pave the Muan Hyeonggyeong?Sinan Jido section of National Road No. 24 to four lanes in the national road and local road construction plans.
Councilor Kim Won-jung stated in the proposal, “It has been 40 years since National Road No. 24 was paved as a two-lane road, and with a significant increase in basic traffic volume, the situation has become serious enough to cause great inconvenience to daily life,” expressing, “The expansion and paving of the Muan Hyeonggyeong?Sinan Jido section to four lanes has become an urgent task that can no longer be postponed.”
