Bucheon-si Does Not Charge Reconnection Fees for Water Service Suspension Due to Unpaid Water Bills
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will not charge a water supply suspension cancellation fee for overdue water bills starting from the 20th.
The city announced that the "Partial Amendment to the Water Supply Ordinance," which includes this provision, was approved as originally proposed at the 251st Bucheon City Council and is scheduled to be promulgated and enforced on the 20th.
According to the current article (Article 41), if a user’s water supply is suspended due to overdue water bills, in order to lift the suspension, they must pay the overdue water bill in full and separately pay a water supply suspension cancellation fee (5,000 KRW or 7,000 KRW).
The city viewed the current provision as placing an additional burden on economically struggling citizens and pursued an amendment to partially adjust the basis for imposing the suspension cancellation fee. As a result, a proviso was added stipulating that no cancellation fee will be charged if the bill is overdue.
