This move comes in response to growing concerns about the mental health of the elderly as society enters a super-aged era.
On the 11th, KT announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 'AI Senior Care Business Cooperation' with Baikal AI, an AI startup specializing in language processing, at Konkuk University Creative Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Under this agreement, the two companies will collaborate on ▲applying the cognitive impairment prediction solution to KT's AI Senior Care business ▲mutual cooperation for developing senior care products ▲innovation in cognitive impairment measurement technology based on AI.
Declaring its transformation into a digital platform company (Digico), KT has recently been focusing on developing technologies and platforms to support socially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and low-income populations by leveraging AI, big data, and cloud capabilities. This collaboration is part of that effort.
Baikal AI, which is collaborating with KT, is a company developing a cognitive impairment prediction solution that learns speech composition variables such as pronunciation, fluency, and conversational consistency through AI to distinguish cognitive impairment. A key feature of this solution is its ability to predict cognitive impairment abnormalities by listening to a person's everyday speech. Baikal AI, which has been conducting related research since 2019, aims to pilot the service in the third quarter of this year at two general university hospitals and one university research institute located in Seoul.
Im Chae-hwan, Executive Director of KT’s AI·DX Platform Business Division, said, “KT and Baikal AI plan to cooperate in various ways to develop and apply AI-based elderly care services. We will actively practice ESG management by introducing solutions that support not only the elderly but also more socially vulnerable groups such as low-income populations, thereby contributing to society.”
